Corn

Today's adventure included corn. Again, I will post pictures when I get home. We found a lady selling corn on the malecon (street). Being the Nacho Libre fans that we are, we had to get some. ("This is where they sell the best corn in the city") First, she rubs the corn with a lime. Second, she salts the corn. Next she covers the corn in mayonesa (mayonaise). Then she covers the mayonesa with queso (cheese) and sprinkles it with red pepper. She adds a stick and hands it to us. Straight from her bare hands to our mouth. Competely freaked out about germs at this point, so I made Chris eat it first. He said if he gets Swine Flu from corn, then I have to get it, too. So I sank my teeth into the possibly germ-infested corn. It actually tasted pretty good. (I only took one bite - just to say I tried it.)

On another note, my toes finally found the ocean (after five LONG days of not touching the sand or the ocean - completely different story). Chris took a 2 hour snorkel tour off the coast of Tulum for 150 pesos (approx. 12 US). Said it was the best snorkel spot he has ever been to. He has been to quite a few, so it must have been good. He didn't put on sunscreen, however, and ended up frying himself COMPLETELY. Sucks to be him right now! (I am sunburn free, thanks for asking.)

Again, will post a pic if I get to come home. I am trying to think of a good name for my possible tortilla business.

Still Sitting in Mexico

Still sitting in Mexico. Still hearing about Swine Flu. Still worrying I will be forced to stay in Mexico for an extended period of time and have to learn to make tortillas for a living.

On the upside, today Chris and I learned how to bargain down a speeding ticket from a Mexican Police Officer. It started out at 1,800 pesos (about 150 US) and the cop keeps his license until we pay. It ended up at "how much you want to pay?" We got out of it for 500 pesos (about 40 US) and keeping the license. Only in Mexico. Only me.

Also, for you Nacho Libre fans - I saw a woman eating corn on a stick! "Getcha corn outta my face!" I do have a photo. It will post as soon as I get home - if I get to come home.

Quarantine

Due to popular demand, I will quarantine my husband and myself when we return home. And I will buy three cases of Lysol disenfectant spray. And I may even bathe in it.

Support

Thank you for all of your support in my marathon madness - I don't know if I get in until May 11th. Pure torture!!

It's that time...

The marathon entry has been sent. The check has been mailed. The date has been circled on the calendar. The training books have been bought. My fingers are crossed. Here's to getting into the St George Marathon. Here's to training injury free. Here's to being completely and totally INSANE!!! And hopefully I will be able to cross this off my "To Do" life list.

5K

Auntie Les signed up for the Salt Lake Marathon 5K. She got sick, so I ran in her place. It felt so good to run outside after being on the treadmill for weeks on end. My bursitis is still not better, so my time was a bit slower than I would have liked. Overall, I feel good about being able to run today. NOTE: If you run a race, learn running etiquette! More to follow...

Ode to Mom

Mom, Laura (sister), Me, Stacie (sister), Taylor (my kid), Abbi (niece)

My Mom...

Taught me the proper way to clean a bathroom, balance a checkbook and make a bed

Always says yes to babysitting (even when I think she doesn't want to)

Can make dinner out of ANYTHING - and have it taste good

Does not waste leftovers

Keeps party supplies on hand so we can always have a party at her house

Thanks, Mom

Cookies

Michelle Birch makes the best cookies. And Laura (my sister) does, too. My cookies are all flat. I want to make cookies like Michelle and Laura.

Happy Anniversary

Tulum, Cancun in 2005
Chris and I celebrated 14 years of marriage on Monday. We were both sick, so it wasn't much of a celebration. We will celebrate in two weeks in Cancun.

Fun facts:

We met on a SWA flight to San Diego.

We both went by the name of Chris (Kris) when we met.

We got married in the SL Temple and had a reception at the Old Meeting House.

We got married on my sister's 16th birthday (horrible, I know).

We went to Maui on our honeymoon.

We have 3 kids, two of which look EXACTLY like Chris did as a child (Taylor and Cameron.) (I would swear Ashlie was adopted if I hadn't been there.)

I have had people stop me at the grocery store and ask me if my kids all had the same "baby daddy" (I didn't actually know what that meant.) Creepy, huh?
Chris is my best friend and I love his guts even more now than when I married him!!

Wow, 14 years has flown by. I'm sure the next 14 will, too.

What Kind of Mom Would I Be...

If I did not post photos of my children dying Easter eggs! Cameron started asking me last Sunday when he realized Easter was a week away. He didn't ask me once, twice, or even three times and hour. It was more like 10 times an hour! If was afraid if I held him off much longer he would explode, so here we are - dyeing Easter eggs. No, they weren't done with silk ties like Char (the most CREATIVELY AMAZING person I know), but they will do. Hallelujah for PAS Easter egg dye!
Taylor and Ashlie with a dozen fashionably colored eggs.

Cameron and his eggs (I think he might possibly be the cutest boy ever made. Not biased AT ALL!!!!)

Cameron, Ashlie, Maise (Taylor's friend, aka Crazy Maise) and Taylor in the egg dyeing process.
HAPPY EASTER!

I'm OUT

I am officially out of the SL half marathon next Saturday. When I add mileage my bursitis acts up. Doc says NO RACE!! The shots did not take care of it. There will not be an April race for me. On the upside, I have filled out my St George marathon registration. (Cross your fingers that Michell and I will get in!!!) Hopefully my bursitis will be taken care of by the time I start training. If any of you have any ideas/suggestions for how to heal bursitis...

FREE Baby Items to a Good Home

I have several gently used baby items from my sister if anyone knows of anyone in need. There is an infant seat, an infant car seat, immense amounts of baby clothes - for a girl - and several toys. Let me know if you are interested.

Beantown Adventures Days 5 and 6

My last two days in Boston - I went to Fenway Park to buy hats, banners and other Red Sox paraphanelia for my hubby, kids and nephew . . .I took 35 pictures of Fenway Park and the Babe Ruth statue...

I then walked the hallowed halls of Harvard University in Cambridge.

And took photos of buildings and statues and went to the Harvard Book Store.

I finished up the vacation walking the Freedom Trail in Boston (in the pouring, blowing rain). It was compeltely, totally worth it, though, to see the Revoluationary War sites. I just wish I could have spent more time there NOT being frozen.

On to the airport where my flight was delayed by two hours. But it was worth it to see this beautiful sunset. I made my connection in Denver with seconds to spare. The suitcase did not. Oh well. It couldn't all be perfect, could it?

Good to be home. Thanks for reading.
