How do you run a marathon?
One step at a time!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS
to all 2009 St. George Marathon participants!
After six months of eating, sleeping, dreaming, OBSESSING about the marathon, I had to drop out due to an injury requiring surgery. I only cried a few times on Friday when I picked up my race packet, then again on Saturday as Darin (Michelle's husband) and I cheered (for 2 1/2 hours straight!!!!!) for all the awesome, amazing runners in this year's marathon.
My INCREDIBLE husband ran for me. (He finished in 3:46!!!!!! AMAZING!!) Michelle, (my FABULOUS training partner), also ran today and FINISHED STRONG. They both did a FANTASTIC job and I am so proud of both of them!
Here are some of the highlights from the race...

Michelle and I at the starting line Q&A sign Friday afternoon - it says
"Physical pain is temporary - the memories are forever!"

The Official start line

Chris and Michelle - checking out the start of the race course (the tunnel of flags)
Chris and Michelle at the OFFICIAL start line (spectators are not allowed at the official start line - runners only! We drove up Friday night to check it out and get some photos)
Saturday morning before the race...
Pre-race meal (at 4:30 a.m.!!) - peanut butter on wheat toast - delicious AND nutritous!

Pre-race Chris - getting the jitters out (I don't think Chris or Michelle slept much the night before - they were both a little nervous!)

Michelle at mile 23...
(her dear husband, Darin, ran the last three miles with her - so sweet and supportive!)

And at the finish line - you go, girl!!! Next year, I'll be by your side!

Chris at mile 23 - still going strong
VERY Short video of Chris running into the city...

Relaxing in the hot tub...

Easing sore muscles!
Congratulations to everyone. Great race!
I will have my surgery in December.
Now, more than ever, I am INSPIRED AND DETERMINED to heal quickly and be back in top form to complete the St. George 2010 marathon, stronger than ever.
I will be a PARTICIPANT instead of a CHEERLEADER! (Tho I really enjoyed cheering for all the amazing, awesome, awe-inspiring runners!)
For those of you that finished this year's marathon = I'm INSPIRED by you! For those of you that don't run yet - go witness a marathon. You will be INSPIRED!!
